Police in Aberystwyth are offering free bike registration and security marking after recovering a mountain bike stolen from the bike shed at Plascrug Leisure Centre.

Dyfed-Powys Police said its Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention Team carried out enquiries the following day, identified two suspects and recovered the bike. It has since been returned to its owner. The force has not said whether anyone was arrested or charged.

The update was shared by Sergeant Phil Woodland after cycle theft was raised as a concern by people responding to a local police priority survey. Officers said anyone in Aberystwyth who would like their bike registered and marked should get in contact.

Dyfed-Powys Police also advises cyclists to use two locks, including at least one D-lock, secure the frame and wheels, and keep a record of the bike’s frame number. More advice is available on their bike security page.

Anyone whose bike is stolen can report it through the online reporting service. Cyclists who want to ask about registration or security marking can contact the force through its contact page.
