Aberystwyth Town are through to the last 32 of the FAW Welsh Cup after beating Prestatyn Town 5–1 at Park Avenue on Saturday, 17 October. Aaron Williams and Dan Owen scored twice each, with Tom Evans also on the scoresheet.

Aberystwyth made a fast start against the previously unbeaten leaders of the Ardal North West league. Williams put the home side ahead after 11 minutes, turning in a rebound after Tarran Hollinshead’s shot was saved. Evans doubled the advantage four minutes later with a low finish.

Prestatyn fought back before half-time. Tom Hilditch scored in the 36th minute following a mistake in the Aberystwyth defence, leaving the score at 2–1 at the interval. Aberystwyth goalkeeper Luke Evans then made several saves as the visitors pushed for an equaliser after the break.

The match turned when Prestatyn’s Lewis Evans was sent off for a second yellow card around the hour mark. Williams headed in his second goal on 70 minutes, before substitute Dan Owen scored twice in quick succession, in the 71st and 75th minutes, to complete the 5–1 win.

The result repeats the scoreline when the two clubs met in the Welsh Cup quarter-finals in 2009. It also sends Craig Williams’ side into the third round of this season’s competition.

Aberystwyth have been drawn away to Colwyn Bay in the third round, with ties scheduled for the weekend of 13–15 November. The exact kick-off arrangements are still to be confirmed. Before then, Town return to Cymru South league action away to Baglan Dragons on Saturday, 24 October, with the club listing a 2.30pm kick-off.
