The Pact

Our shared commitment to publishing a useful, welcoming and trustworthy community site. We ask you to contribute honestly and respect others. In return, we commit to treating contributions with care, making fair editorial decisions and correcting our mistakes openly.

How to contribute

Send your story idea, event listing, opinion piece or photo through hello@aberystwyth.net. Please include:

Please say if there is a deadline or if any information is especially sensitive. We may contact you to verify details or clarify how you’d like to be credited.

Our values

We publish in a spirit of fairness, warmth and goodwill.

What we publish

We welcome well-sourced local news, community updates, event information, photographs and opinion pieces relevant to Aberystwyth and the surrounding area. We may edit, shorten or decline material so it fits the site and meets these standards.

Submitting material does not guarantee publication. We’ll aim to tell you if we plan to use your contribution and may ask follow-up questions.

Accuracy and sources

We check factual claims before publication and seek confirmation from relevant people or organisations when appropriate. We distinguish reported information from comment, opinion and personal experience. Where practical, we link to or identify the sources readers need to understand a story.

If a claim is disputed or cannot be independently verified, we’ll make that clear rather than presenting it as established fact.

Fairness and right of reply

We aim to represent people and organisations fairly. If a contribution makes serious allegations about an identifiable person or organisation, we’ll seek their response before publishing and include it where appropriate.

We don’t publish material that is abusive, discriminatory, threatening, knowingly false, or intended to harass or expose someone to harm.

Opinions and personal views

Opinion pieces should be clearly labelled and should make their case honestly, with factual claims that can be checked. Views expressed by contributors are their own.

We may decline or edit opinion pieces that contain unsupported allegations, personal attacks or material that does not meet these guidelines.

Corrections and updates

If you spot an error, contact us with the page or story, the information you believe is wrong, and any supporting evidence. We’ll review the issue and, where a correction is needed, update the story and explain the change clearly. We may also update stories when new information becomes available.

Photos and other material

Only send photos, video or other material that you created or have permission to share. Tell us who created it and whether anyone pictured has agreed to its publication, especially when children are involved. We may ask for confirmation of permission before using it.

Please don’t send material that could put someone at risk or reveal sensitive personal information without their consent.

Welsh and English

Contributions in Welsh or English are welcome. We aim to make content available in both languages where possible. If you send a contribution in one language, let us know whether you can provide a translation or would like help arranging one.

Editing and publication

We may correct spelling, improve clarity, shorten contributions or make changes to fit the site. We won’t knowingly change the meaning of a contribution. We may add a headline, introduction or context, and we’ll identify substantial edits or provide an opportunity to review them where appropriate.

By submitting material, you confirm that it is your own or that you have permission to share it, and that the information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge. We’ll discuss any necessary permissions or publication arrangements with you before using material when needed.
