A new coach service linking Aberystwyth with Bangor and Carmarthen starts on Sunday, 25 October. But passengers must book before travelling, and Welsh concessionary bus passes will not be accepted.

TaithCymru will call at Aberystwyth University and Aberystwyth Bus Station, as well as Aberaeron, Machynlleth, Dolgellau, Porthmadog and Caernarfon. Transport for Wales (TfW) advertises nine return journeys a day on the main Bangor–Carmarthen route, with one late-night journey extending to Holyhead. A limited timetable applies on the opening Sunday, so passengers should check their exact departure time. The service will be operated by Edwards Coaches in partnership with Llew Jones.

Fares and booking

An adult single from Aberystwyth to Carmarthen costs £4.50, with a scheduled journey of about one hour and 45 minutes. TfW is also offering introductory adult singles of £7 between Aberystwyth and Bangor and £10 between Bangor and Carmarthen. Promotional fares are available until early January 2027; the Bangor–Carmarthen fare is then due to rise to £14.

You cannot simply turn up and pay the driver. Tickets must be booked online or by phone at least 15 minutes before departure, subject to seats being available. Bookings open on a rolling 14-day basis. TfW says concessionary bus passes are not currently valid on TaithCymru, which has its own ticketing system.

Accessibility and facilities

The coaches have one wheelchair space, but the onboard toilets are not wheelchair-accessible. Aberaeron is not currently an accessible stop. TfW says accessible alternatives are available on TrawsCymru services T1, T5 and T2, although those services do not run overnight. Passengers needing assistance are encouraged to contact the support team at least 36 hours before travelling.

Coaches have reclining seats, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and luggage space, with limited cycle places available to book.
