Penparcau fighter Sean Gorman is preparing to make his professional bare-knuckle boxing debut in Cardiff, in an eliminator which could earn him a shot at a British championship.

Gorman is expected to face experienced bare-knuckle fighter Chene Ferguson at the Vale Arena in Cardiff on Saturday, 12 September. Gorman told Aberystwyth.net that Ferguson has had more than 25 bare-knuckle fights, making it a major test as the Aberystwyth fighter competes without gloves for the first time.

The bout marks another step in Gorman’s return to combat sports. He previously competed as a professional gloved boxer before returning to competition under hybrid boxing rules. He stopped Jack Harris in the first round in October 2025 before defeating Haydn Sherriff in January 2026 to claim a European middleweight hybrid championship.

Now Gorman is moving into professional bare-knuckle boxing. He told Aberystwyth.net:

“I’ve boxed professional gloved. I’ve boxed hybrid boxing and won a European middleweight championship. Now I’m taking the gloves off completely.”

Gorman says the fight against Ferguson is an eliminator for the British bare-knuckle boxing championship. A victory would put him in line for an opportunity to fight for the British title in December.

“For me this is a massive opportunity to showcase my ability on a massive stage.”

“I’m both excited and nervous with one week to go. Bare-knuckle boxing is probably the most brutal out of all the combat sports.”

The event is scheduled for Saturday, 12 September at the Vale Arena in Cardiff. Doors are advertised to open at 4pm, with the first bell at 5.30pm. Aberystwyth.net will follow Gorman’s progress as the Penparcau fighter prepares for his professional bare-knuckle debut.

The event will also be shown live at Bar 46 (Bridge Street, Aberystwyth) from 5pm.

Wishing you the very best of luck in Cardiff, Sean. Everyone in Aberystwyth and Penparcau will be rooting for you!
