An Aberystwyth People’s Assembly will discuss climate action ahead of COP31, with an introduction from Aberystwyth University climate politics expert Dr Hannah Hughes.
People in Aberystwyth will have an opportunity to discuss climate change and what they would like the Welsh Government to do about it at the next People’s Assembly, taking place at Neuadd Goffa on Saturday 7 November 2026 at 2pm.
The meeting comes just two days before COP31, the United Nations climate conference, begins in Antalya, Türkiye. The annual talks bring countries together to negotiate international action on global warming and its effects.
Dr Hannah Hughes, Senior Lecturer in International Politics and Climate Change at Aberystwyth University, will introduce the discussion. According to organiser Susanna Kenyon, Dr Hughes has attended every COP conference held so far this decade, bringing first-hand experience of the international negotiations to the local meeting.
Following the introduction, participants will break into small groups to consider two questions: “What would you like the Welsh Government to do about climate change?” and “How can we participate in COP31?”
The People’s Assembly takes place at Neuadd Goffa, Penparcau, Aberystwyth, at 2pm on Saturday 7 November. COP31 begins on Monday 9 November and continues until 20 November.
