Connor Edwards (independent), once the youngest face on Aberystwyth Town Council, has been officially booted from office after a six-month disappearing act. The 23-year-old Independent councillor failed to attend a single council meeting since late last year — and under local government rules, that’s an automatic strike-off.
The Local Government Act 1972 section 85 states:
“Member of a local authority fails throughout a period of six consecutive months from the date of his last attendance to attend any meeting of the authority, he shall (…) cease to be a member of the authority.”
Connor wasn’t entirely off the radar. He popped up at the The Vale of Rheidol pub, shaving his head in a charity event that raised £630 for Mencap. A good deed, no doubt.
The reason for the extended absence remains a mystery — illness, burnout, or just couldn’t be bothered?
Aberystwyth Town council assures us this is the first time this has happened since records began. There are now two Penparcau Ward vacancies advertised following the strike-off, and the additional resignation of Cllr. Gwion Jones
