After four months of dedicated volunteer work, Climate Shop has reopened—this time at 10 Market Street, in the former Medina building. The new space is bigger, brighter, and brimming with quality second-hand goods. As Director Ru Hartwell puts it: “It’s basically a massive green department store”
But this is no ordinary shop. Every item sold funds tree planting in Boré, Coast Province, Kenya. That kettle, book, or winter coat? It’s helping reforest a region thousands of miles away. All profits go directly to the cause, and the shop is entirely run by volunteers.

A Dalek shouting “Exterminate all smurfs!”

Inside, there’s also a café serving coffee, pizza and cake. Out back, a small forest garden offers a quiet escape.

At Climate Shop, items aren’t priced in pounds—they’re priced in trees. One tree equals 20p, so if something is marked as 5 trees, it costs £1, and five trees will be planted. Earlier this year, they celebrated planting two million trees.
