Familiar local faces from Aberystwyth lit up the white cliffs of Dover today as part of eco action ‘The People’s Picture.’ Their images joined photos from celebrities such as Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Ben Fogle and Konnie Huq in a collage projection created from thousands of uploaded images to demand urgent Government action on environmental policy. Designed by public artist Helen Marshall, the mosaic illuminated the love people feel for their green spaces.

The photos from Aberystwyth all showed home-made green hearts that were created with love as part of The Great Big Green Week. Eco Hub Aber, a local organisation focusing on green community projects, held art workshops in Aberystwyth Bandstand on the 14th June. Local artists Rachel Booth and Maeve Moran ran workshops making the green hearts from donated fabrics, card and decorations. Photographs of green hearts were uploaded to The Climate Coalition’s website to join this message to Government to take action on climate change.

Eco Hub Aber Co-Founder Kate Rolt said: “We believe we are all part of the change. Working together through Eco Hub Aber, we can take part in actions that reduce carbon, increase biodiversity and deliver social justice.”

The mosaic is part of an action taking place today in Westminster with over 300 MPs meeting thousands of people for the ‘Act Now, Change Forever’ mass lobby. It visually demonstrates the strength of feeling on climate change stating on bold lettering across the pictures that, ‘89% of people want climate action.’ The artwork was created from photos of forests, meadows, seafronts and the faces of nature-lovers from all over the UK, some holding up hand-made green hearts. Each image tells a different personal story of a meaningful green space local to them. In Aberystwyth, photos depict Cardigan Bay, and show off green hearts created in the Aberystwyth Bandstand workshops.  The message is to keep our beautiful Cardigan Bay clean with a healthy marine life for our future generations.
