A recent rental listing in Aberystwyth has gone viral—for all the wrong reasons. At £595 a month, this so-called “studio” on North Parade is really just one tiny room trying to be a bedroom, kitchen, laundry, and living space all at once!
Original listing: https://www.padarnproperty.co.uk/property/266-1-bedroom-flat-for-rent
The photos say it all. A bed sits inches from a washing machine and kitchen sink. A microwave and toaster rest on top of the washer. There’s no wall or door—just everything crammed together in one awkward space. A small side kitchen appears only in one photo, barely making it look like a flat.
This isn’t smart design or minimalist living. It’s what happens when landlords try to squeeze profit out of poor-quality housing—and tenants, often students or young workers, and sometimes even pensioners have no better options.
One person online replied to the listing: “Think I’d take the cupboard under the stairs than this place.”
The real problem isn’t just this one listing. It’s how normal this is becoming. We’re being told it’s okay to live with your laundry machine next to your bed—and to pay nearly £600 for it.
